|
Until now she had been a simple spectator in the struggle between nationalists and French paratroopers in Algiers. But when one of her girl friends is arrested, Djamila Bouhired, a high school student, decides to join the F.L.N. (National Liberation Front). Djamila is caught by "Bigeard", a French officer heading operations against the F.L.N. network implanted among the population. She is tortured but refuses to talk. When public opinion is roused, the French lawyer Vergès comes to take her defense in a trial that is a travesty of justice. The dramatic story of the Algerian resistance of the French occupation. |
